Gone, gone, gone…
September 14, 2009
Well, the inevitable happened…
The White House, my favorite abandoned house and most frequent photographic subject, was torn down sometime last month.
It isn’t alone…
“Rideau Fire”, the hulking brick house on First Line has gone to make way for yet another housing development. Monster homes for people who want “the country life” living cheek-by-jowl with their neighbours.
In May, 2005, I was lucky enough to have gone out to take photos of the old Pappas summer resort cottages.
They were torn down 5 days later.
Correct me if i’m wrong but were these little cottages down by the water off prince of wales just south of ottawa? I almost rented one to stay for a summer back in mid 70’s The place gave me the creeps after i visited & decided… Not!
Yes. They were down behind the hotel building, below the level of the road.
It’s hard to watch some old abandoned home filled with stories of days gone by being torn down. I have a huge collection of photographs I’ve taken of similar structures. When I drive down those roads now, some are gone.
